What I’m Doing to Market My Business in the New Year

The start of a new year is a time when I feel a lot of pressure (and I am sure you do too). That’s because the months leading up to it are a blitz of reviews, planning, and trying to find a groove to quickly start making moves with an updated routine. But, on top of all that, the pure need to sit down and strategize can stop you in your tracks because you don’t know where to start. So today, I figured it would be an interesting practice to share the plans I am putting into place to market Sourced Co. in the new year—to give you a not so blank page to start from. If you’ve ever wanted a look inside my head to see what I’m thinking about, read on to find out what I am doing (and why) and see if these marketing tips are ones you should use in 2021.

Deep diving into metrics

If you know me, you probably have gathered that I like to go with my gut. I am very opinionated and can have knee-jerk reactions to things. And, as much as my intuition serves me well, having data to back up what I feel is the right decision is imperative. So, at the end of every year, I dive into all the numbers behind my businesses deeper than what I would typically do in my monthly review (which I track in an excel sheet).

The reason going down the rabbit hole is especially productive in the new year is because I can see the trends (positive and negative) and then try to understand the situation that made the trends happen. It sets me up with a better understanding of what I did to create an environment that was profitable as well as ones that cost me—then I can use these findings to feel confident about the plan I am putting forward for the new year.

Pro-tip: Dive into the metrics for all of your social media platforms, your website, blog, e-commerce shop, Pinterest, and advertisements if you have them.

Making bigger investments in advertising

I love the creative side of advertising—the set up, not so much. But, over the years, I have been continually committed more and more to the advertisements we run for Sourced Co. and 2021 is going to be a year we dedicate more than we ever have to them. From setting up our first Google ads, increasing our daily spend on Etsy ads, and upping our monthly budget for social media ads, this is definitely the thing I really feel we need to commit to.

The reason being, I am not anticipating that in-person events are going to happen en-mass this year so since we will be losing that marketing channel, this is the best way to make sure we are doing everything we can to put our business in front of new people.

Outsourcing something for the first time ever

This is a big one for me (I am a control freak)! We just starting outsourcing our Pinterest management. I have a love/hate relationship with the platform (in fact, I think everyone on the team does) because it requires a lot of attention—and we just couldn’t keep consistent. So, we hired Gabby Pinkerton to take over and I am excited to have freed up some of our time to work on other things!

Exploring a new marketing channels

The last big thing I am doing in the new year is exploring a few new marketing channels. Since our blogging, Pinterest, and social media efforts are all really solid, we are going to add affiliates into the mix. Affiliate marketing is something we have considered for a while and decided that now was as good a time as ever to give our happy customers an opportunity to help us spread the word—and make mailbox money when they do! I just started an account with Rewardful and creating all the assets our affiliate would need is at the top of my to-do list!

There you have it—this is where my focus is as we kick off the new year. I hope some of these marketing tips got your wheels turning and if you want support creating or implementing your plan, I’d love to help! Reach out to schedule a complimentary 30-minute consult call today!
